The Refuge is coming to LCC

January 29 to February 5 every evening from 6:00 pm till 8:30 am

The Refuge is a mobile homeless shelter for displaced Lapeer area residents.  Each week The Refuge occupies a different area church and provides a source of shelter and respite for people facing a difficult situation.

In Lapeer County there were over 243 homeless people from November 2010 until November 1, 2011.  Around 60 of those 243 people included families with children.  Five families found shelter through The Refuge last year, up from the two The Refuge hosted the previous year.  The Refuge hosted double the number of people in 2010-11 than they did in 2009-2010.

The Refuge is the only shelter for people who find themselves homeless in Lapeer County.  The Hispanic Service Center in Imlay City will house a limited number of families.  LACADA only provides shelter to women and their children who are homeless due to a domestic violence situation.  Homelessness is up 2.8% in Michigan this year.

We need lots of folks to help accomplish this local mission project.  We need volunteers to donate and cook meals, "chaperone" and interact with guests during their stay, cleaning crews, transportation assistants, and be prayer warriors for this event.  Ready to volunteer?  CLICK HERE to register for a shift.
